My name is Sonia Scott. I am an older adult learner and a first-generation college student. I am a mother of 5 and the grandmother of 8. I will be receiving my BS in the fall of 2026, majoring in social work. I currently work as a CASAC for a mental health and substance use treatment facility. I have been in this field for almost 7 years. I chose to become a social worker mainly because I wanted to delve deeper into the backstories of individuals’ trauma and pain that contributed to substance use disorders. My goal is to work with marginalized communities and assist those who need help finding their voice.

My name is Kendra Afriyie. I am a wife and a mother to 2 young adults. I’m currently working on my Bachelor’s. I’m majoring in Social Work CASAC. I am also taking extra mental illness classes. I am minoring in Psychology. These three are intertwined. I chose these three, because it benefits me and the client. I am able to look at my client from different angles, and tend to the person’s needs all around. I will be pursuing my Master’s after I’m done with my Bachelor’s. I love talking to and helping people without judgement. That is the reason why I chose Social Work. My goal is to work with people who are overlooked, and shunned by society.
